Preguntar
Las preguntas "tipo sí - no" se llaman así porque esperan una respuesta yes o no y por lo tanto empiezan por un auxiliar:
Do you speak English? Yes, I do.
Las preguntas "wh" son:
who whom whose which what where when why
how how much how many how long how often how far
(at) what time what.....for what....like how old
Las preguntas tipo -wh- piden información concreta:
What's your name? My names's Bill.
Cuando la partícula interrogativa es el sujeto de un verbo no se usa el auxiliar:
Who did you call? (¿A quién llamaste?)
Who called? (¿Quién llamó?)
What happened? (¿Qué pasó?)
La pregunta tipo coletilla se coloca al final de una frase y sirve para pedir confirmación de dicha frase, equivaliendo al español (¿verdad?):
You speak English, don't you?
Hay que seguir un par de reglas. Si la frase es afirmativa la coletilla sería negativa:
You're British, aren't you?
Si la frase es negativa la coletilla es afirmativa:
You're not Japanese, are you?
El auxiliar tiene que coincidir con el verbo:
You'll write to me, won't you?
You have never been to London, have you?
