I want you to speak English.

This is a very common structure which is confusing for Spanish speakers of English.
The typical mistake would be to say, "I want that you speak English".
The rule = subject + want + person + infinitive

Practice this structure by completing the following sentences.

 

1.  My father doesn't think I study hard enough.

 

2.  My husband doesn't like it when I smoke. (stop)

 

3.  The government doesn't think that we pay enough money in taxes. (more taxes)

 

4.  The secretary doesn't think her boss gives her enough money. (more money)

 

5.  My wife doesn't like to drive with me. She says I drive too fast. (more slowly)

 

6.  The teacher thinks that we don't study hard enough. (harder)

 

7.  My father never washes the car. He says it's my job.

 

8.  My neighbours make a lot of noise at night. I wish they wouldn't make so much noise.

 

9.  If the people feel the beat when they listen to his music that makes him happy.

 

10.  If everybody visits MyProfe.com Gordon will be very happy.
