Simon

ElAmericano, thank you and your friend!
I had a lot of exams this week, so I failed to check this forum in time.
In the future I'll try to do a better job in correcting the german posts!

Maybe you use on time, like: finishing something "on time". And in time...

On time refers to the exact scheduled, arranged or agreed time.
In time means before the event or activity begins. That's why it is much more important to be in time than to be on time.
You schedule a meeting for 8 o'clock in the morning. Two people arrive at 7.45. Two people arrive at 8. Two people arrive at 8.10 and two people arrive at 8.20.
You start the meeting at 8.15.
Two people were early.
Two people were on time.
Four people arrived late.
Six people arrived in time for the meeting.
Two people arrived late for the meeting.
