To "show" is to demonstrate, illustrate, display, exhibit etc.

The photographer is scheduled to show his work at the local gallery next month.


To "show" also means to appear; to be seen.

Herald said he was gonna be there but he didn't show.


The verbs teach and "show" can be translated as enseƱar but the words are not the same. They are Similar but Different. To "teach" is to educate, to give instructions so that something is learned. To show is simply to demonstrate or display so that something can be seen. The only time the two words have the same meaning is when "show" is followed by the word how.

He learned to ride a bike by himself. Nobody taught him. Nobody showed him how to do it.

Show up

To "show up" is a phrasal verb which means to appear or to come.

Everybody was at the meeting except Janis. Nobody knows why she didn't show up.

Show off

To "show off" is to boast, be proud; to think highly of oneself.

All he talks about is how great his kids are, how beautiful his wife is and how famous his neighbors are. He would be one of my best friends if he didn't show off so much.
